Well, the indoor rodeo was indeed a hoot. However, the real capper was poppin' some caps. That's right, a bus-full of moto journos let loose with full-auto weapons, shotguns, handguns and a rifle.
Okay, fine, we weren't exactly "let loose." What? Do you think the people at Kawi are nuts?!? No, they brought in serious professionals to train us and keep us safe from ourselves. We went to Elm Fork Shooting Sports in Dallas, Texas. This was not some podunk lil' shootin' range but a 467 acre facility.
What was on the menu? From shock to awe, we each had the opportunity to sample the following weapons:
9mm semi-automatic pistol (one of my faves, I think this one was the Beretta M9)
.22 cal rifle (Beretta Cx4 Storm)
shotgun, semi-automatic (I think the Beretta AL391 Urika 2 Sporting KO Synthetic) (trap shooting, one target at a time)
AND (ready?)
MAC-10 (fully automatic)
AND
M16 (fully automatic, oh, Yes!)
Let me just say that the power of these last two was unanimously awe-inspiring. And, that everyone – enthusiasts, novices and semi-phobics – had a great time.
