Texas Raises The Limit

85mph On The Highway

Have you heard? Everything really IS bigger in Texas. Well, at least the speed limit on one stretch of highway soon will be the highest in the land.

Construction crews are posting 85-mph speed limit signs along a section of toll road on Texas' State Highway 130 as we speak. The approximately 40-mile stretch of highway east of Austin will be open to traffic by Nov. 11.

I've heard some folks are chapped about it. What do you think - good news or bad stuff ahead?

 Utah is the only other state with posted speeds at 80 mph.

1. Anyone who has had to ride an Interstate Highway in Texas knows the new speed limit is DEFINITELY good news! Our cities are hours and hours apart, and one end of the state to the other is a full day of hard saddle time. Most folks who live on the East Coast don't really get that, and as a result have difficulty understanding 80 and 85 MPH speed limits. Believe me, when faced with six or seven hours of staring into the afternoon sun on Interstate 10 between San Antonio and El Paso, even the greenest safetycrat in the land is gonna wanna hit the gas!

2. There has been 2485 fatalities on Texas hwy's so far this year.(give or take) Now they are rising the speed limit? What are they thinking of, I live in laredo and foresee alot of problems especially with all the semi-truck traffic because of the shale mining around here. No, for me I'll keep safe and ride safely. Thanks but no thanks!
