Earlier this year, nine of the motorcycle industry’s most renowned custom bike builders started with a Star Bolt as a blank canvas and began creating their own masterpieces. The first two designs were released at the start of this year’s 73rd Annual Sturgis Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota.
We cruised by the Star display on Lazelle to check out these new custom Bolts; Roland Sands Design’s Custom Bolt (in preceding paragraph), with styling cues from café racers and flat trackers, and Low & Mean's totally "slammed" interpretation, dubbed the “Copper Bolt.” Chris Hagest's Low & Mean custom Bolt definitely stands out (or rather, low), and we even got a short ride on the thing (see an upcoming issue for details). Roland's bike was unavailable at the time.
Both bikes will be featured in the Star Motorcycles display during Sturgis Bike Week, and seven more designs are coming down the pike soon, incuding machines from Rooke Customs, Broward Motorsports, Sesto Customs, Jeff Palhegyi Designs, Chappell Customs, Doc’s Chops, M&M Customs and Dave Zemla of Burly Brand.
The next custom Bolt will be publically unveiled in the Star Motorcycles display at Indy MotoGP on August 16.
